Mike Ditta has been named Associate Head Coach at Pomona-Pitzer after 8 years as an assistant coach at UC Irvine. During his stint at UC Irvine he assisted in leading the program to unprecedented success. After his arrival to the men’s soccer program in 2009, the program garnered three Big West Conference Championships(2009, 2011, 2013), three Big West Conference Tournament Championships(2010, 2011, 2013), four NCAA Tournament appearances(2009, 2011, 2013, and 2014), the highest national ranking in the program’s tenure(#2 in 2014), two round of “Sweet Sixteen” NCAA Tournament appearances, and upsetting the NCAA number one seed (Stanford in 2014), which he was instrumental in assisting these achievements.
Throughout his years as assistant coach he was pivotal in the recruiting process. The recruiting classes of 2010 and 2011 were nationally recognized as top-30 classes. From these classes, several All-Far West Region, All-Americans, Academic All-Americans, All Big West Conference, MLS, NASL, USL and even a US Men’s National team player has emerged.
Ditta quickly established himself as more than just a recruiter. In a few short years, he was provided the opportunity with more responsibilities which included, assisting with training development, match analysis, match day defensive preparations, player management, player evaluations, video operations, and scouting preparation. In 2013, he was promoted to full time assistant and began assisting with every aspect of the program.
Simultaneously he has extensive experience at the youth levels as a Director and Academy coach. Throughout his 20 plus seasons at the youth levels he continues to influence many player’s path towards achieving collegiate scholarships, professional contracts, and national team opportunities. During his experience at these levels, he’s been key in leading teams to several leagues and tournaments as well as both regional and national championships.
His playing experience included 2 years at the USISL 3rd Division team LA Cobras(LA Salsa reserve team). There he was captain leading his team to a Southwest Division title and earned MVP honors at the USISL Finals in 1993. He later played two seasons at Vanguard University being named captain in 1996, leading that team to the program's first every GSAC Tournament Championship match. He earned GSAC 1st Team and All-Far West Region 1st Team honors. Finished his collegiate career at Azusa Pacific University in 1998, helping that team to a ranking of 5th in the NAIA that season.
Ditta graduated from Azusa Pacific University in 1999 with a B.A. in Sociology. Later completed his M.S. in Education Administration from National University in 2004.
Originally from Riverside then moved to Orange County to begin college. Currently and for the past 18 years has lived in Yorba Linda with his wife, Alana and daughter, Maddie.
